This cheetah mother was an impressive huntress. She’d been raising three cubs to near adulthood when we encountered her; all three were physically her size. But they had yet to develop her acumen, which meant, for now, she was still hunting for four adult-sized appetites. And all of them were well fed. At one point she chose to approach us directly, perhaps using us as a form of a screen or blind, to allow her to get closer to a herd of Thompson’s gazelles. I was mesmerized by her menacing gaze as she moved towards, and then past me.
