About the image:

Desert warthogs have thrived in Samburu National Park, where they’ve had relatively fewer predators in recent years.  Nevertheless, their lives remain perilous.  This mother has survived at least one serious threat, while losing her left ear.

She spent this morning feeding and herding these four piglets, in tandem with another mother who was caring for a group of her own.  Warthogs may be generally under-appreciated, but I find them to be supremely cute, and I enjoyed watching the babies racing from spot to spot, and then regathering with mom.  And for me, the piglets’ tiny tusks are irresistible.
